Welcome (back), Jack!

It's a new day and a new year for school librarians! Lockers are slamming, bells are ringing, and the sound of a barcode scanner is beep-beep-beeping.  Students are checking out books in the library!  School has only been in session for 6 weeks, and I have already discovered that the class of 2017 is full of teens who love to read.
These kids are crazy for YA lit!   I cannot keep up with their demands.  They want their books and they want them now!  Whew. I have really got to plan a lesson about the book publishing process.   These students need a better understanding of why they have to wait for the next book.  They are all so devastated when I tell them that they are going to have to wait several months to a year for the next book in their favorite series to hit the shelves.  Thankfully, they can wait with another great book in tow, especially since my library gets to start fresh every year with each new batch of 9th graders.  That is one of the perks of the 9th grade school! Our freshmen get to experience a real high school library for the first time--a library that is full of new and "new to you" YA lit.  So, bring it on class of 2017!  Let's read together.  It will be so much fun!
